Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy impressed by Aaron Connolly

For their forthcoming games republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy says young forward Aaron Connolly is very much in his ideas.
Connolly has been drafted into the Irish group for the forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers at Switzerland and Georgia.
However, McCarthy says that the 19-year-olds weekend double for Brighton against Tottenham demonstrates that he deserves to be in the combination during the next fortnight.
I would not have put him in the group unless I believed he was (in contention), said McCarthy.
He was exceptional (contrary to Tottenham). His goals were very good – that I thought that his very first one was great.
His motion was good, he got across the defender and after that, having experienced the first shot he had the presence of mind to spin and put it in the web.
He really has some personality about the pitch, thats for certain.
If somebody gets in the first team at the Premier League and is playing well and scoring goals, then he has every possibility of getting an opportunity in our group.
Im surprised , I am delighted by his performances.
The fact hes come in here on a top with some momentum out of the weekend is fine too. He offers me a excellent option.
McCarthy remains hopeful that David McGoldrick and Shane Duffy could be fit in time to play a part in the qualifiers.
He explained:I had a concept from Shane before on and that he said he is feeling great.
I havent talked to David for a while nevertheless (Sheffield United manager) Chris Wilder mentioned theyre doing what they can to get him match.
The two lads want to be healthy and, if they can get there, I will wait as long as I can.
